ASKED QUESTIONS |
General
- 1.
Why is the Drum so important
for Race Fuels? To
protect the integrity of the Fuel. Lined drums prohibit rust,
corrosion and metal deposits that can
contaminate fuel delivery systems.
- 2.
Shipping Race Fuels?
Drums
are shipped truck freight and 5 gallon or less is shipped
UPS.
- 3.
Can I store my fuel through the winter?
Race fuel has a very good shelf life. It
is however, very sensitive to light, so it should not be stored in clear
containers. Fuel can be stored for extended periods of time as long as it is in
an air tight container. Race fuel jugs and Plastic drums
are not good for long-term storage; if
you are going to store your fuel for the winter, use a quality
steel drum and keep it
inside.
- 4. What is Octane?
Octane is a
fuel’s resistance to burn. The higher the octane, the easier it can withstand
higher compression and temperature without igniting and causing pre-ignition or
detonation.
- 5.
What is Detonation?
Fuel doesn’t explode as
much as it burns. A proper fuel air mix will have a flame front that travels
from the initial ignition point (spark plug) and travels across the face of the
piston. Detonation occurs when the fuel mixture ignites other than at the spark
plug. This causes several flame fronts and when these flame fronts collide you
have detonation. Higher octane fuel will usually solve the problem.
- 6.
What is pre-ignition?
Pre-ignition is when
the fuel ignites before the spark plug fires. This is usually caused by
hot spots within the cylinder. Higher octane fuel will usually solve the
problem.
- 7.
What Octane do
I need?
This is one of the most asked questions and it is also one of the hardest
questions to simply answer. A lot of information is needed to asses an engine’s
needs. A rule of thumb to start with is compression. The fuels page of this site
will help you determine what Octane you should start with.
- 8.
Why shouldn’t I run aviation fuel?
Aviation fuel
usually has an octane number of around 103 (r+m/2) and it has a relatively low
lead content. Aviation fuel is designed to burn at a high altitude and
relatively low RPM. Unlike airplane use, racing applications have a wider RPM
range and the air is much denser. Therefore, aviation fuel is not a
good choice.
- 9.
What can I put in my fuel to increase
horsepower? There are a lot of products in
this site that increased horsepower.
See our Power Additive product page.
- 10.
Can Racing Fuel
be use in todays Automobiles?
Only a Unleaded Racing Fuel like
GT 100. Leaded Fuels will mess
up sensors and converter.
- 11.
How can I Calculate
a Compression Ratio V2 = Cylinder Volume + Head Volume (V1) - 1.8cc
(Normal Sparkplug Thread
Volume.) Compression
Ratio = V2 = Cylinder Volume + HeadVolume
- 1.8cc V1
Head
Volume - 1.8cc

Additives
- 1. Will
007 Super Blue Power Additive change color of Fuel?
No, This
additive is clear in color.
- 2.
What Increase in HP will I
get from the 007 Super Blue Additive? You
get a 10-12% Increase!
- 3.
Will Super Blue 007 Power Additive
effect the Dielect meter?
Has no effect on dielectric meters.
- 4. What
is the shelf life Super Blue 007 Power Additive?
Storage life is 4 months after mixed.
- 5.
Can you mix 007 with Methanol?
No, this additive is for Gasoline.
- 6. How
much will KL-602 Octane Booster by Klotz increase my
numbers? As
much as 10 numbers or more.
- 7. Will
Propylene Oxide show on Dielectric?
Yes, it will.
- 8. What
HP Increase will I get from Propylene Oxide? Up
to a 8% Increase.
- 9.
Can Propylene Oxide be used
in Gas? Yes,
it can be used in Gas, Methanol, Nitro and Diesel.
- Race
Fuels
- 1.
Is the Pure Power Methanol
really over 99.9% pure? Yes,
We purchase only the highest Quality!
- 2.
Can the Pure Power Racing
Methanol be used to make Bio Diesel?
Yes, Because of it purity it is an excellent
choice.
- 3.
What compression ratio
is Sunoco Standard 110 designed for?
Compression ratios up to 13:1
- 4.What
compression ratio is Sunoco Supreme 112 designed
for? Compression ratios up to 15:1
- 5.
What compression ratio is Sunoco
Maximal 116 designed for?
Compression ratios up to 17:1
- 6.
What Racing Fuel does NASCAR use?
Supreme 112
- 7.
Will Nitromethane make my car faster?
Nitromethane is a very powerful fuel, and it can be used to increase power
output in racing applications. Nitro does not mix well with gasoline so
therefore it is better for alcohol applications. Nitro creates
tremendous amounts of heat when it is ignited, and without spending obscene
amounts of money, it is hard to use nitro in gas applications.
- 8.
What is the highest rated octane gasoline you
have? We have a Sunoco NOS
117 and a Klotz 118.
- 9.
Why is the guy down the street selling Sunoco Standard
(Purple) as a 115 octane? 115
is the research Octane. The Antiknock
Index (R+M)/2 is what we go by for the Octane Rating
which is 110.
- 10.
Does Sunoco's MO2X meet AMA Specs? Yes,
This is a superior Race Fuel, 112 Octane with 2.7% Oxygen
vol%.
- Race
Lubricants
- 1. Why
use Pure Power Performance Top Lube? This
Top Lube
that makes your engine run faster, cooler and last longer and
it will not burn.
- 2.
What is the difference between
motorcycle and automotive lubricants?
Motorcycle lubricants has a better
sheer strength than automotive
oil.
- 3.
Is synthetics better?
Synthetics are better detergents and
dispersants than mineral oils, they can maintain far
more materials in suspension
where they can do little harm to the engine.
- 4.
Can you mix conventional oil
together with synthetics?
Yes, Most synthetics will blend with
petroleum oils. However some
synthetics that are designed to blend with methanol
alcohol are not compatible with petroleum oils and synthetic
lubricants.
- 5.
I need a 32:1 mix, How do I
get this? Ratio
32:1 is 1 gallon of Fuel to 4oz of Lube or 5 gallon
of Fuel to 20oz of Lube.
- 6.
Does Synthetics make us go Faster? Yes,
less friction, cooler operating temps, Great film strength
and greater resistance to lubricant
breakdown.
